FEBRUARY 22, 2011

Relaxed
Ready to learn
Listening to the teacher
SMASH!
It rocked from side to side
The floor was moving
Roars from the earth
Nature exploding
Floor moving
Windows smashed
Desks smashed
Computer flying
Chairs flying
Boxes falling
Books went everywhere
Shocked.
No time for shoes or bags
Hope Mum comes soon
My heart was pumping
I was terrified in the classroom
Teachers talked quietly
Everyone sat quietly outside

Nobody talked
helicopters circling
Waiting for my Mum
Teachers taking the rolls
Water oozing
Aftershocks terrifying
Cars by the million
Sirens screaming
Holes and bumps in the road
Great holes appearing
Sinking cars
Dogs barking
Silt oozing
Like driving through riverbeds
Men and women running
Life will still go on.

FEBRUARY 22, 2011

Sitting quietly
Waiting for instructions
Lunchtime over
Full bellies
JOLT!
Classroom rocking
Desks flying
Kids scrambling
The earth growling
Desks flying
Seats swinging
Computers thrown
Power gone
Netball courts cracking
Windows smashing
People terrified
Park splitting before our eyes
We wait
Hearts pumping
Nobody talking
Everyone in shock
Orders over the speaker
Looking for families
Avoiding cracks
Too scared to think
Everyone sitting

Sirens screaming
Hoping dad will arrive soon
Aftershocks terrifying
Taking rolls
Looking at the damage more aftershocks
People shaking uncontrollably
Talking with friends
Zigzagging past cracks
Aftershocks rocking cars
Silt covering roads
Central city munted
We may have lost our stuff but we still have each other!

FEBRUARY 22, 2011

Peacefully listening
Full tummies
Roll finished
Ready to work
SMASH!
Earth shaking
Ground grumbling
Classroom shaking
Shaking buildings
Earth vomiting
Ground cracking
Chairs flying
Books tipping
Shelves falling
Games thrown
Heaters swinging
Computer chucked
Rolling rubbish bins
Earth takes a break
Walked out – traumatised
Faces frozen in shock
Nobody talking
Hunting for family
Cuddling anyone
Too scared to think.
Patiently listening to teachers
Children calming parents
Silt oozing out of the ground
Parents crying
Hoping mum comes soon
People shaking silently
Roads wobbling
Walking through silty paths
Pot holes in the footpaths
Buildings pancakes on themselves
Millions of cars on the road
But
Red and Black will stay strong.

FEBRUARY 22, 2011

Sitting, waiting for instructions
Lunchtime over
Happy and eager to work
Settled down
RUMBLE!
Earth screaming
Classroom tipping
Rocking and rolling
Heaters swaying
Ground cracking
Another gigantic jolt!
The earth is hungry.
Desks crashing and banging
Chairs dashing
Heaters rocking
Lights out
Children under desks or turtles
The park covered in silt
Doors smashing
Computer crashing
Time freezes for a second
No time for shoes
Hearts pumping
Walking orderly
Avoiding silt
Lining up calmly
Worried about friends
Nobody talking
Calming each other
Dad arrives – but where’s Mum?
Nobody stands
Everybody sitting
Holding each other during more jolts
Sirens screaming
Cars by the mile
Driving over huge bumps
Walking through silt
Watching cars sink
Silt oozing out of the ground
Holes appearing second by second
-Life may have changed but it will not destroy us!

FEBRUARY 22, 2011

Quiet and peaceful
Happy and content
Patiently waiting for instructions.
Settled.
BANG!
Cracking
Rumbling
Earth splitting
Crashing
Earth shattering
Lights flickering
Glass smashing
Computer flying
Heaters swinging
Clock flying
Buildings crashing
People heaving
Time freezes
Everyone numb

Hearts pumping
Nobody talking
Walked out orderly
Lining up calmly
Hunting for friends and family
Wanting Mum
People shaking
Eyes wide with fear
Cars by the mile
Waiting patiently for a sign of hope.
Helicopters circling
Teachers taking rolls
Silt oozing
Walking through silt to home
Aftershocks rocking
Bumpy roads
People leaving their cars
Life changed forever.

FEBRUARY 22, 2011

Peaceful, quiet, relaxed
Waiting on the mat
Ready to learn
Listening to instructions
BANG!
Classroom rocking
Rumbling, growling
Crashing, roaring
Side to side
Earth shattering
Computers flying
Heaters swinging
Desks jumping
Chairs tipping
People screaming
Fan flying
Lights out
Pens rolling
It stops
Orders over speaker
Hearts pumping
Everyone shocked

Nobody talking
Lining up calmly
Looking for family or friends
Cuddling anybody
Everyone sitting, waiting and watching
Looking at damage
People shaking
Roads erupted
Talking to friends
Cars by the mile
Aftershocks terrifying
Cars tipping into holes
Silt splatters on the car window
Roads flooding with water by the minute
Streets now 4WD tracks
Silt rising
We will stand strong and proud.

FEBRUARY 22, 2011

Patiently sitting on the mat
Waiting
Ready to work
Listening for instructions
SMASH!
Shaking! Splitting!
Lots of noise
Rocking and rolling
Earth’s hungry
Windows shatter
Lights flicker
Chairs fly
Doors smash
Time freezes!
Walking out in shock
Dodging cracks
Faces shocked
Everybody quiet.
Everybody sitting
Hearts pumping
Hunting for family faces
Teachers talking quietly
Dad arrives – but not mum
Cars for miles
Looking at the damaged grounds
Talking with friends
Roads oozing
Walking home
Streets disintegrate
Bricks still falling
New shocks
Silt spewing
Sewage running in the street

We CAN work together to build a new life!
