FEBRUARY 22, 2011

Tired from lunchtime
Ready to learn
Listening to the teacher
BOOM!
Earth roars!
Walls splintering
Computer crashing
Wood cracking
Children screaming quietly
Ground shaking
Exploding
Heaters swinging
Ground in the park collapsing
Desks sliding, flying
Children diving
Power gone
Whiteboard rolling
Earth takes a breath
We dodge cracks
Walking out shocked and stunned
Nobody is hurt
Too scared to think
Everybody numb
Faces terrified
Wanting Mum
Too scared to cry
Cuddling strangers
Cars thick on the split road
Hearts pumping
Walking home in shock
I can’t believe what I see
It looks like the moon
Everyone wants family
Sirens scream
Helicopters coming down close to us
Silt still rising from the ground
Sewerage coming around the corner
Split in the concrete gets wider
Cars have fallen into holes
Water flooding everywhere
Aftershocks rumbling
Waiting for hours in traffic
We are broken but not destroyed.
